The USDA announced today that six more meat and poultry companies have joined its voluntary "Product of USA" labeling initiative, continuing the expansion of a program that promotes domestically produced agricultural products. The label can only be used on products that come from animals born, raised, slaughtered, and processed entirely within the United States, giving consumers greater confidence about the origin of the food they purchase.
According to U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke L. Rollins, the initiative is intended to strengthen American agriculture by creating more market opportunities for domestic producers while making food labels clearer and more transparent. The program is also expected to improve consumer trust and encourage retailers to source more products from U.S. farmers and ranchers.
Agricultural industry leaders have welcomed the growing adoption of the label, saying it helps distinguish American-produced meat and poultry from imported products. They believe clearer country-of-origin labeling can increase demand for locally produced food and improve competitiveness across the agricultural sector.
The expansion of the "Product of USA" initiative comes as governments around the world continue focusing on food security, resilient supply chains, and support for domestic agriculture. Analysts say stronger food labeling programs can benefit both consumers and producers by improving transparency throughout the agricultural value chain.
