Pharmaceutical company GSK has announced a major investment of £400 million to establish a new research and development headquarters at the Cambridge Biomedical Campus in the United Kingdom.

The new 300,000-square-foot facility will replace GSK's current main R&D centre in Stevenage and is expected to be completed by 2029. More than 1,000 employees are expected to relocate to the new site, while the company's Ware facility will also undergo significant upgrades.

The investment is aimed at accelerating scientific research, fostering collaboration with leading universities and healthcare institutions, and supporting the development of new medicines. UK government officials welcomed the announcement, describing it as a strong vote of confidence in Britain's life sciences sector, which has attracted more than £3 billion in public and private investment over the past year.

Following the announcement, GSK's shares rose by around 2.6%, reflecting positive investor sentiment over the company's long-term commitment to research and innovation. The new facility is expected to play a key role in advancing medical breakthroughs while creating economic opportunities through high-skilled jobs and increased investment in the region.
