Microsoft says artificial intelligence is becoming one of the fastest-growing parts of its business, with demand for AI-powered cloud services continuing to exceed expectations. The company reported that Azure cloud revenue grew 43% year over year, largely driven by organizations deploying AI applications across industries including healthcare, finance, education, manufacturing, and software development.
The company also revealed that Microsoft 365 Copilot has surpassed 30 million paid users, reflecting strong enterprise adoption of AI tools that help automate writing, data analysis, coding, presentations, and workplace productivity. Microsoft said it continues to expand Copilot with new AI agents and capabilities across Windows, Office, GitHub, and Dynamics 365.
To support growing demand, Microsoft reaffirmed plans to spend approximately US$175 billion on AI infrastructure throughout 2026, including new data centers, custom AI chips, and cloud computing facilities. CEO Satya Nadella said these investments are intended to ensure Microsoft can meet long-term demand for advanced AI services while improving efficiency and expanding its own AI technologies.
Technology analysts describe Microsoft's latest update as another sign that the global AI race is accelerating. With billions of dollars being invested in cloud infrastructure and artificial intelligence, competition among Microsoft, Google, Amazon, NVIDIA, Meta, and OpenAI is expected to intensify as companies compete to shape the future of AI-powered computing.
