The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has convened its 30th Committee on Agriculture (COAG), bringing together policymakers, scientists, and agricultural leaders to address some of the world's biggest farming challenges. During the opening session, FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu emphasized that science, technical innovation, and international cooperation are essential for building resilient agrifood systems capable of feeding a growing global population.
Delegates are discussing a wide range of priorities, including One Health, the bioeconomy, climate resilience, rural development, soil health, sustainable pesticide use, water scarcity, agricultural plastics, and antimicrobial resistance. The committee is also reviewing progress on initiatives designed to improve agricultural productivity while protecting natural resources.
FAO highlighted several recent achievements, including advances in smart farming, sustainable livestock transformation, agricultural mechanization, and the implementation of international guidelines to reduce food loss and waste. These efforts are intended to help countries modernize agriculture while improving food security and reducing environmental impacts.
