In an official statement published on 28 July 2026, the Council of the European Union said Iranian security forces attacked two French diplomats in Tehran on 19 July 2026.
The EU stated that the incident violated the Vienna Conventions, which protect diplomats and regulate relations between countries. It warned that such actions could undermine diplomatic relations and the safety of foreign representatives operating in Iran.
The European Union expressed solidarity with France and urged Iranian authorities to investigate the incident, punish those responsible and respect the country’s international obligations.
